Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! We offer beginner classes and intro lessons for adults and kids who are just starting out.

  • No. You do not need any prior martial arts experience or a high baseline of fitness. BJJ is designed so that leverage beats brute strength, and your flexibility, endurance, and functional strength will develop naturally through consistent training.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or give us a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • When trained responsibly, martial arts are very safe. Most injuries occur when practitioners try to “win” in training, instead of focusing on getting better and being a good teammate. Our kids classes are especially safe as there’s no striking (no punching or kicking), and we emphasize control, technique, and respect over brute force. Classes are supervised closely, and students are taught how to tap and communicate if they’re uncomfortable.

  • For your first class, any standard, comfortable workout clothes (like a t-shirt and athletic shorts without zippers) will work. Basic etiquette requires that you keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed short, remove all jewelry, and always wear slide-on sandals when walking off the mats.

  • Absolutely! BJJ is one of the most effective workouts in terms of building strength and endurance. Kickboxing offers a great workout as well, combining power and cardio!
